Water sports · Protected lagoon
Kayak the lagoon at your own pace.
At high tide the reef flat turns into a wide, calm pool of clear water. Take a kayak out on your own or paddle with a local guide past moored dhows, seaweed farms and quiet stretches of village coast.

What the paddle is like
We launch straight from the beach once the water is deep enough. The reef sits a kilometre or so offshore and breaks the swell, so inside the lagoon the surface is usually flat and the water is clear enough to watch the seagrass pass underneath.
A guided paddle follows the coast past fishing boats, seaweed farming lines and the small villages between Paje and Jambiani, with stops to float, swim or simply listen. It is the quietest way to see this shoreline.
If you prefer to be alone, we hand over the kayak, agree a return time and a safe area, and leave you to it.

Common questions
- Do I need kayaking experience?
- No. Sit-on-top kayaks are stable and the lagoon is protected by the reef. A short briefing covers paddling, turning and what to do if you slide off.
- When is the best time to kayak in Zanzibar?
- Around high tide, usually early morning when the wind is lightest. The exact window moves every day, so we confirm the time once we know your dates.
- Can children join?
- Yes, sharing a double kayak with an adult. Tell us ages and numbers so the right boats and buoyancy aids are prepared.
- How much does it cost?
- There is no fixed public price. Contact us for availability and a personalized quotation, whether you want an hour of rental or a guided paddle.
