The shallow lagoons of the south-east coast are among the friendliest places in the world to learn. We arrange lessons with local instructors, refresher sessions and equipment rental for riders who already know the kite.

How a session works
We check the forecast and the tide table together and agree a time the evening before. On the beach the instructor sets up the kite, explains the wind window and safety systems, and you practise steering before anything else happens.
Once you are comfortable, the lesson moves into the lagoon. At mid tide the water is waist deep over a long stretch of sand, so you can stop, stand up and start again as often as you need.
Experienced riders can simply rent a kite and board. Bring your own harness if you prefer, tell us your size and weight range, and we will arrange suitable equipment.

- Do I need experience to try kitesurfing in Zanzibar?
- No. Beginner lessons start on the sand with kite control, then move into the shallow lagoon where you can stand. Independent riders can also rent equipment after a short check.
- When is the wind best in Zanzibar?
- The east coast generally gets steady trade winds around December to March and again around June to September. Wind is weather, so no day can be promised in advance.
- Where do the lessons take place?
- On the shallow lagoons of the south-east coast around Paje, Jambiani and Bwejuu, chosen on the day according to wind direction and tide.
